No. The chain rollers make contact with the ridges inside the measuring channel of the device and roll along them. There are no other contact points - the channel does not touch the sides of the chain. Because the rollers roll (rather than slide) along the channel, friction is minimal.

This enables precise measurements with virtually no added resistance. The mechanism functions similarly to a bearing, where rolling contact ensures smooth, low-friction movement. Our beta testers consistently report no noticeable friction or noise as they ride.
